PROFILE
I began hammering away on a plastic tool set when at 5. Dad built custom homes, so I was tiling, trimming, hanging wallpaper, and installing doorknobs by 10. I went on to design and build sets in school and took that knowledge to film and television in Austin and New York working as a Set Constructionist, Art Director, Production and Sound Designer. I’ve experimented with many media over the years: paint, wood, glass. I love the stimulation of taking on a broad scope of projects from hanging my enormous broken mirror installations in a fancy, downtown restaurant to renewing my next door neighbor’s antique kitchen table.
There’s a perfection I try to achieve in each piece I create or room I design. I’m one of those people who thinks best when everything is in its right place. It’s always been my first instinct to enhance my environment, to attempt to harness the entropy and disorder around me. Using reclaimed materials and transforming them from their forgotten state is a big part of that philosophy. I try to find ways to make the old and broken beautiful again. – Robert Musseman
